Queen Aliquippa-Lightbringer 3
Queen Alliquippa was the leader of a Seneca tribe living along three rivers in Western Pennsylvania-near what is now Pittsburgh-in the early 1700s.
She was so revered that explorers, politicians and commanders all sought her counsel and favor. Yet so little is known about her.
Historical references (written almost exclusively by men) use words like “demanding”, “powerful” and “respected” to describe her. She ruled gracefully and with great authority through a very uncertain time for her people.
